Gemma Horton

Gemma Horton is a PhD Researcher in the Department of Journalism Studies at The University of Sheffield. Her research involves examining the right to privacy of celebrities and how this right is balanced against the freedom of the press. She is specifically interested in examining whether or not celebrities’ privacy is being better protected following the conclusion of The Leveson Inquiry in the United Kingdom. Her research involves comparative legal analysis, comparing the laws of France, the United Kingdom and the United States to see how each respective jurisdiction balances the right to privacy with freedom of the press. Her research also combines comparative legal analysis with qualitative research, specifically interviews with journalists and legal experts, to give an insight into how the journalism industry reports on celebrities’ private lives.
